Today, I want to talk about a very special and interesting
blog. That blog is "Why The Nicest People Are the Loneliest: A Story That Will Make You Cry."
What does it mean? Why is it so important? What is the
real effect of Life’s? And the most important question?
If you have these questions in your mind, then this article
is for you. Read it till the end, because it might change the way you see
people.
Why The Nicest People Are the Loneliest.
I have a friend. Let's call him Hasham.
If you ask me who the best person I know is, I will say Hasham's
name without thinking for a second.
Hasham is that one person everyone calls. Literally
everyone.
If someone needs help shifting houses at 7 in the morning,
they call Hasham. If someone's car breaks down in the middle of the night, they
call Hasham. If someone is crying at 2 AM because their girlfriend left them,
they call Hasham. And Hasham always picks up.
He always says, "Yes, tell me. I am here."
I have known him for 8 years, and I have never once heard him
say, "No, I am busy." Never.
He is the kind of guy who will listen to your same breakup
story for the fifth time and still listen like he is hearing it for the first
time. He will remember your mom's surgery date. He will remember that you don't
like sugar in your tea. He remembers small things because he cares.
But last Tuesday, I saw something that broke my heart.
It was around 9 PM. I was going home, and I saw him sitting
alone at our usual tea stall. Alone. His tea was cold. He was just staring at
his phone, scrolling up and down, but there were no messages. His face looked
so empty.
I sat next to him. I said, "What happened? Why are you
sitting alone?"
He smiled. But it was that tired, fake smile. You know that
smile when a person is tired on the inside but doesn't want to show it.
He said, "Nothing. Just... just tired."
I said, "Hasham, you help everyone, you care for
everyone, you do all the work for everyone... why are you always the one who ends
up alone? Why?"
He was quiet for a long time. Then he started talking. And
what he said, I think everyone who is a "nice person" will feel in
their heart.
Reason 1 - Why You Are Always Available; You Lose Your Value.
He said, "You know, Ali, when you are always free for
everyone, people stop valuing your time. They think, Hasham is free anyway. He
has nothing to do. So, they call me only when they need me. Not when they want
me."
"Last month my cousin had a wedding. I helped him for
10 days; I brought all the decorations, I managed everything. On the wedding
day, I had no chair to sit. No one called me for photos. I was just... there,
but invisible."
This hit me hard. We treat nice people like free WIFI. We use them every day, but we never thank the WIFI. We only remember it when it disconnects.
Reason 2 - He Became Everyone's Therapist, But He Has No Therapist.
"I know everyone's secrets," he said while looking
down. "I know who is cheating, who is in debt, who is depressed. I have
kept everyone's secrets safe here in my heart. But my heart is getting heavy
now."
"I tried to tell my best friend last month that I am
not okay. That I feel low. You know what he said? He said, 'Come on yaar, you
are the strong one. You will be fine. You always are.' And then he started
telling me his own problem again."
That is the curse of being the listener. Everyone thinks you
are strong. So, no one asks if you are okay. They just assume you are okay. The
person who wipes everyone's tears often has no one to wipe his own tears.
He told me he cries sometimes in the bathroom, with the shower on, so no one can hear. Because he doesn't want to look weak.
Reason 3 - He Gave Everything, Hoping It Would Make Them Love Him.
This was the saddest part.
"I thought," he said, "if I help people more,
they will love me more. So, I gave more. I gave away my time, my savings, and my sleep. I said yes to everything. I thought love is about giving."
"But I was wrong. People don't love you for how much
you give. In fact, when you give too much, people start expecting. And when you
give too much, they stop respecting you. They think he is desperate."
He gave 100%, but people only gave him back 10% when they
needed something. Love became a one-way road for him. He was walking alone on
that road, thinking someone was walking with him.

That Night I Understood Something Important.
Hasham is not alone because he is a bad person. He is alone
BECAUSE he is too good.
He never learned to say no.
He never learned to say, "I am busy today; I need
rest."
He never learned to say, "I need help too; can you
come?"
He thought saying no meant heNot for others, but for himself was selfish. But saying
yes to everything made him lose himself.
In trying to keep everyone happy, he forgot to keep himself happy.
I put my hand on his shoulder and I said, "Hasham, you
are not alone. I am here. But you must let people help you too. You have to
tell them when you are tired."
He cried that night. For the first time in 8 years, I saw Hasham
cry, not for someone else, but for himself.
If you are reading this and you feel like you are Hasham -
the one who listens to everyone, who helps everyone, who cares for everyone,
but at the end of the day, you sit alone and wonder, "Why does no one care
for me?" - then this is for you.
Please, it is okay to say no.
It is okay to not pick up the phone sometimes.
It is okay to say "I can't do this today."
It is okay to put yourself first.
You don't have to carry the whole world to be loved. The
right people, the real people, will love you even when you are not doing
anything for them. They will love you for who you are, not for what you do for
them.
You are not alone because you are not worthy of love. You
are alone because you gave your love to people who only knew how to take, not
how to give back.
Moral: The people who heal everyone else often need the most healing themselves. If you know such a person, don't just use them; check on them too.
Did this story touch you? Have you ever felt like Hasham - giving everything and still feeling alone? I really want to read your story in the comments. You are not alone here
